One of the most difficult problems that an athlete faces after an injury is determining when you are ready to return to sport.

 

You can be placed under enormous pressure from the coach,  teammates or your own expectations to get out on the track, field or court as fast as possible.

This is made worse by medical staff who may not have extensive experience transitioning athletes from early-stage rehabilitation back to the gym and training like a performance athlete.

If you want to give yourself every chance to make a successful transition back to sport, it is vital that you minimise the guesswork -- getting it wrong is an expensive, long and heartbreaking mistake which prevents you doing what you love.

Although nothing in life is guaranteed, there are a number of physiological and functional factors that when achieved, will you give yourself every opportunity to return to play (RTP).
